Sultanate among top in GDP per capita

WASHINGTON: The Sultanate was ranked among the top 29 countries in the world in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. This was revealed by the statistics released by the Business Standards newspaper, based on the latest data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Sultanate was ranked 27th in the world as the GDP per capita stood at $45,723 per annum, ahead of the United Kingdom whose GDP per capita stood at $45,565 per annum and France with GDP per capita at $45,473 per annum. Qatar topped the list as the GDP per capita stood at $128,720 per annum, followed by Macau administrative area of China where the GDP per capita is $122,489 per annum, and Luxemburg with $110,870 per annum. The newspaper pointed out that twice a year the IMF releases a huge dump of data about the economic power of the world’s nations, with gross domestic product per capita as a key statistic. The IMF ranks the world’s countries according to their GDP based on purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita. The list covers all the countries with a GDP per capita higher than $45,000 per year. — ONA
